About Me

Welcome to The Housewife Travels!

I’m Ronelle Cannon, a writer and hesitant adventurer. Here you’ll find the journey of an overworked, overprotective mother who is just plain OVER it!

Faced with my thirtieth birthday and plagued with insecurities and worry that some would say borders on paranoia, I find myself traveling across the country and even across oceans determined to uncover the parts of myself that seem to have been misplaced under dirty diapers and endless laundry.

Having spent the last ten years with one or three children attached to any given appendage, I was living my dream. But, after sending my youngest child off to kindergarten I found myself wondering aloud, “Now what?”

Though I had longed for the time when I could spend a few hours a day without being covered in someone else’s bodily fluids, I now find the childless hours of my mundane days filled with what Ms. Austen would call “a quick succession of busy nothings.”

Once the epitome of a carefree and adventuresome soul, I now find myself to be the antithesis of my former self and miles from becoming the person I had once hoped to be.

Inspired by two of my favorite authors, Randy Pausch (The Last Lecture) and Ann Andrus (Sixintheworld.com), and armed with a list of childhood dreams, I challenged myself to travel somewhere new each month in hopes of reinvigorating my life, overcoming my fears, and living out my once long-forgotten dreams. Whether attempting the arduous climb to the top of Mt. Whitney or running a couch-to-half-marathon along the San Francisco bay, donning petticoats for a three-day pioneer reenactment, or visiting the inside of an African jail, I learn through humor and chance that the beauty of a life lived well is, in fact, deciding to take the journey at all.

After my original monthly travel challenge ended I found I had no desire to stop! So the story continues. Follow along as I push to make travel and adventure a part of everyday family life.

Thanks for joining me as I figure things out one adventure at a time.

Always love,

The Housewife
