Maryland to California

Saturday it was time to head back to California.
Brent and I drove up and visited the D.C. temple, a first for me. It’s a really beautiful neighborhood. Very green and woodsy. We had a nice time serving there and really appreciated the time for quiet reflection and prayer as we’re embarking on this huge adventure.
When we got to the airport we found ourselves in a VERY long line that wasn’t moving at all. Turns out someone from the air crew didn’t show up for work and they were canceling our flight. With all that we needed to do Brent was dying to get home but there was bad weather in the UK and it was causing a ton of delays so we had no options. The airline put us up in a hotel nearby for the night and scheduled us for an early flight the next morning.
Turns out the hotel was in the middle of no where. Very isolated and we had NO car. Our choices for dinner seemed to be a gas station and a Burger King. As we approached Burger King we found the lobby completely torn up. Under construction! We meandered over to the gas station and debated whether to roll the dice and eat 14 day old hot dogs.
I couldn’t do it.
I decided that the employees at Burger King might take pity on us and let us order at the drive-thru even though we didn’t have a car.

They did! Hot food that hadn’t been sitting out for 11 days. This was like being 17 years old again trying to play random pranks.

When we got the airport the next morning we had to wait an hour on the plane for a flight attendant to show up. While we were waiting the winter weather caught up to us and we had to wait to deice the plane.
The real insult was that the inflight info card said they’d be playing Austenland on the return flight and they DIDN’T. Austenland was a limited theater release so of course it didn’t come to Ridgecrest. I was SO disappointed.
We had a great trip together. We were so glad to get home and going on our to do list but it was fun while it lasted.
